Description:

New World, Native American, Pacific Northwest, probably Tlingit but maybe Haida, ca. 20th century CE. A stunning silver bracelet with small gold ovoids to form the eyes of the birds whose stylized heads are incised in low relief around the exterior of the bracelet. The heads are all generally oriented horizontally, with long, hooked beaks. The eagle was known as the "master of the skies" and the mighty raptor was a figure of great significance in Northwestern cosmology. The eagle sent messages and prayers to the Creator, and if an eagle was seen during a prayer session, it was taken as a sign that a prayer had been accepted. Eagle feathers remain sacred symbols of prayer. Size: 2.95" W x 1.8" H (7.5 cm x 4.6 cm); size of opening: 1.7" (4.3 cm). 93.6 grams
