Native America, Navajo, Kirk Smith (recently passed away, September 2012), ca. 1960 to 1980 CE. A stunning vintage turquoise andf sterling silver bracelet created by Navajo artist Kirk Smith who came from a family of well-known silversmiths and became an artist in this own right from the 1960s until 1980 when he returned to silversmithing full time. This bracelet is truly a piece of wearable art with heavy silver, detailed craftmanship, and breathtaking stones. What makes it relatively unique is that it is a cluster bracelet, as Mr. Smith made very few cluster bracelets during his career. Note the plethora of high quality natural blue turquoise stones in various shapes and hues. The stones are surrounded by silver ropes and beads. The form of the bracelet features a fantastic five silver shank cuff and it is signed by this highly respected Navajo artist, Kirk Smith. It is also marked sterling silver. The center stone measures .625" x .5" (1.6 x 1.3 cm). Stone decorated area measures 4" L x 2.25" W (10.2 x 5.7 cm). Inside end to end measures 2.125" (5.4 cm) with a 1" (2.5 cm) gap.
