Native American, Kewa Pueblo (New Mexico), ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely quartet of turquoise and shell heishe beads formed into necklaces, all displayed together in a red-cloth-backed riker's box. Three of the necklaces feature larger, naturally-shaped chunks of turquoise surrounded by the distinctive disc-shaped heishe beads (also heishi); the fourth is a simple, long strand of white heishe beads. This style of bead has been made in the region since 6000 BCE! Size of longest necklace: 28.5" L (72.4 cm); size of riker's box: 12.25" W x 16.25" H (31.1 cm x 41.3 cm)

Provenance: ex private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired prior to 2008
