Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo tribe, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful pair of necklaces with gorgeous heishi beads made from turquoise, red stone, jet, and shell. The first necklace is adorned with red, white, turquoise, and black stone beads as well as a few jade cylinders above a scallop shell inlaid with red, blue-green, and black stone tesserae. The second necklace features dozens of greenstone and turquoise heishi discs that alternate with petite heishi shell beads. Silver-plated loops and hooks cap the terminals of both necklaces and enable their wearability. Size (w/ inlaid shell): 18.625" L (47.3 cm); (inlaid shell): 2.125" W x 2.2" H (5.4 cm x 5.6 cm); (necklace w/o inlaid shell): 21.7" L (55.1 cm); (center turquoise): 0.2" W (0.5 cm)
