Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A vintage rattle made from rawhide in the form of a turtle, mounted on a wooden handle. The wood is decorated with sinew cords, seed beading, and horsehair tassels with bone discs, feathers, tin, and brass beads. This was likely made for sale or powwows within the last 40 years, and the turtle is probably filled with dried beans and is fully functional. Size: 22.5" L x 4" W (57.2 cm x 10.2 cm)
