Description:

Native American, United States, probably North Carolina, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine group of hand-knapped chert pieces perhaps made as souvenirs from the Fort Shuford Museum in Arden, North Carolina. Included is a light gray thunderbird effigy with a petite beak protruding from the skull as well as a lengthy spear point with a triangular tang, corner notched grooves, and a massive blade with a pointed tip. A postcard from the Fort Shuford Museum is undated and unwritten on the backside. Modern Riker box included. Size (spear point): 10.2" L x 2.1" W (25.9 cm x 5.3 cm); (thunderbird): 4.75" W x 2.6" H (12.1 cm x 6.6 cm); (Riker box): 16.25" L x 12.25" W (41.3 cm x 31.1 cm)
