Description:

Benson Bond Moore (American, 1882-1974), "Redheads on the Potomac", watercolor on illustration board, signed in black on lower left, n.d. A beautiful watercolor depicting eight seabirds flying in a migratory formation over a picturesque shoreline by the American artist Benson B. Moore. Redheads are diving ducks, and the males of this species have beautiful cinnamon-red reads, hence their name. Redheads form large flocks during winter and migration as we see depicted in this watercolor. Born in Washington, D.C., Moore learned the craft of painting conservation from his father. He studied art at the Corcoran School of Art under Edmund Clarence Messer and Richard Norris Brooke, and also with artist Max Weyl. Moore studied drawing at the Linthicum Institute with Ballenger. A lovely depiction from nature by this fine artist. Size: 16" W x 12" H (40.6 cm x 30.5 cm)
