Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Latin America, Mexico, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wood santo of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ child, all enveloped in gesso and yellow, blue, tan, beige, and brown pigments. Crowned by a pointed tiara, the Virgin stands atop an integral plinth, grasping Christ in her left arm, who holds up his right hand in a blessing gesture. Her right arm holds an orb, likely intended as a globus cruciger. A layered robe and cape drape her body as she gazes outward from huge eyes below high-arching brows. Size: 4.3" W x 15.5" H (10.9 cm x 39.4 cm)
