Latin America, Mexico, ca. 20th century CE. A handmade tin nicho of rectangular form presenting a recessed center that would have previously held a retablo surrounded by an elaborate border. A sizeable sunburst with a central floral motif surmounts the frame, which is adorned with zigzag pattern, a stippled periphery, and radiating striations at each rounded corner. A wing-shaped ornament extends from both sides at the top, additionally embellishing the nicho. Size: 12.8" W x 16" H (32.5 cm x 40.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
