Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A wonderful tin nicho containing a painted tin retablo of the Virgin Mary standing on a crescent moon and clouds above a pair of nude angels whose child-like features resemble that of putti or Erotes. With a flame-like halo surrounding her whole body, the Holy Mother wears a long, white robe with a powder blue sash draping her shoulder as she holds both hands to her heart. The image is surrounded by an undulating periphery and a diagonally striated border, while a sizeable, cloud-like adornment rises from the top of the nicho incised with a 6-petaled flower resembling the poinsettia and 2 more petite 8-petalled flowers. Size: 10.8" W x 13.6" H (27.4 cm x 34.5 cm)
