Description:

Mexico, 20th century CE. This is a brightly painted wooden mask with real animal teeth attached to the mouth to give it a horrific appearance. The face is painted split red and black, with a long, hooked nose, and a long, hooked chin that come close to meeting. Twin horns, black and red, with white stripes, rise from the forehead. Two goat-like ears and wide eyes complete the figure. This is the classic animal devin mask, often coming from the states of Guanajuato and Michoacán. These devils play a part in the Pastorela, the Shepherd's Play. Size: 14.5" W x 17.5" H (36.8 cm x 44.4 cm)
