Description:

North America, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine pair of dance masks comprised of hammered sheets of copper with prominent noses on the front and protruding bite tabs on the back. The first mask depicts an expressive visage with rows of sharpened fangs and bloodshot eyes, and the face is flanked by projecting leaves on the bottom, butterfly wings on top, and a horned demon face above the shaggy coiffure. The second mask depicts the red and green face of a man with pursed lips, an enormous beard, and projecting ears adorned with 'shell' earrings. Size (bearded man): 10.7" W x 15.4" H (27.2 cm x 39.1 cm)
