Latin America, Mexico, 20th century. A Mexican folk art ferris wheel occupied by hand-carved and hand-painted miniature skeleton passengers who raise their arms in the air as they enjoy the ride. The wheel turns via a wooden hand crank on one side. Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican celebration honoring friends and family who have passed away. Traditionally, skeletal figurines representing all types are used to honor these ancestors. In this case, we have fun-loving skeletal thrill seekers! Size: 11.5" L x 17.5" W x 18" H (29.2 cm x 44.4 cm x 45.7 cm)

Provenance: private Goldstein collection, Denver, Colorado, USA. The Goldstein's have amassed their collection over the past six decades.

  • Condition: Ferris wheel turns via the wooden hand crank on one side. Expected age wear with minor scuffs to pigment and some losses to skeletons' cotton "hair" on skeletons. A few stray marks and scuffs to the base. Certainly a fun piece!
