Description:

Western Europe, The Netherlands, Amsterdam, ca. mid-20th century CE; Latin America, Mexico, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine pair of vintage silver and silver-plated lighters. The large table lighter has a Karl Wieden mechanism and an ornate sleeve decorated with repousse figures dressed in 18th century or earlier clothing, repeated on both sides. The peasant figures are gathered around a wooden scaffold platform with dentists or doctors helping ailing patients. One side contains hallmarks, the crowned lion rampart and a "ZILPLA 90" for silver finesse, and the base is stamped "SIRE / DORGENTO." The other lighter is a Mexican pocket lighter, stamped "SILVER / MEXICO" along the mechanism arm. The arm lifts to reveal the wick, and the base contains a threaded lid for filling the reservoir.
