Description:

West Africa, Mali, Dogon peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An attractive set of conjoined ancestral figures carved from wood that stand atop a shared, integral plinth. Each figure holds both arms together atop their respective waists, with the male figure exhibiting a prominent chest, and the female with protruding perky breasts. Both figures bear short beards beneath their chins and triangular faces, and curved iron suspension rods display triangular ornaments from the front. Brown pigment envelops both figures and creates a distinctive presentation evocative of fine Dogon artistry. Size: 2.4" W x 9.25" H (6.1 cm x 23.5 cm); 10.4" H (26.4 cm) on included custom stand.
