Description:

Stefan Kaloudov (Bulgarian, 20th century), untitled lithographs, 20th century. A wonderful pair of matted prints with compositions inspired by ancient Greek vase paintings - printed in black on an orange ground to represent the black-figure vase technique by Stefan Kaloudov, a Bulgarian artist who was classically trained in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and works in the US. Interestingly, he is also a first rate conservator of antiquities. His artworks bear a resemblance to those by Sir William Hamilton who was a British ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples during the period of Naples' "Golden Age" and was fascinated by the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as an avid collector of classical antiquities, especially Greek vases. Size: each print ~ 9.375" L x 7.375" W (23.8 cm x 18.7 cm); 15.125" L x 12.125" W (38.4 cm x 30.8 cm) including framing

Provenance: ex-Stefan Kaloudov; purchased directly from the artist in New York in 2011
