Western Europe, Italy, Milan, ca. early to mid-20th century CE; United States, Rhode Island, Providence, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine pair of musical instruments a 33.9% silver plated flute and a hard rubber clarinet with nickel-silver keys. The flute comes with the original wood and cloth covered case (painted to look like alligator skin) with a purple velvet lining, and the cleaning rod and cloth. The flute is marked on the head joint barrel: (treble clef on staff lines) / L. VANOTTI / MILANO / ITALY / 6366 / BREVETTO / LV (monogram). The clarinet is made from Ebonite or a hard rubber and stamped with the maker mark "PRUEFER / WOODWINDS / PROVIDENCE R.I. / USA." This mark is stamped on most of the other segments, and the serial number 73279 is stamped on the upper and lower joints as well, which indicates the instrument was likely made in the 1950s. Size (clarinet): 26.25" L x 3" W (66.7 cm x 7.6 cm)

  • Condition: Clarinet: loose ring fitting on bell, surface wear to mouthpiece, most keys move and articulate- some are stiff. Tape pad added to thumb rest. Old inventory label on surface. Wear to cork joints and segments are slightly loose when assembled. Flute: Patina and dark toning. Pieces assemble and keys articulate- some are stiff. Some losses to cork and foam keypads- some pads are not original. Comes with original case and cleaning rod. scuffs to surfaces and fraying to velvet lining. Instruments have not been tested for playing functionality.
