Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska or Canada, Inuit people, ca. 20th century CE. A charming soapstone carving of a walrus set atop a rough cut limestone, the animal's tusks are made out of bone - probably from a marine animal such as a whale or even a walrus. The blubbery walrus is alert and upright his wrinkled neck is well defined and his blunt snout has lightly incised features. He or she (both male and female walruses have tusks) appears ready to slip off the "ice flow" and into the water! Size: 11" L x 5.5" W x 6.5" H (27.9 cm x 14 cm x 16.5 cm)

- Condition: Stable hairline fissure across front right flipper. Stone base has a large drill hole from being quarried that is situated under rear flippers. Overall great condition. Unsigned.
