Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A beautiful personal dagger made known as a kris (also keris) made for ceremonial events. The handle is carved from dark brown hardwood and depicts a stylized, forward-leaning figure with a protruding nose and intricate scrollwork motifs incised across the body. Beneath the handle is a 92% silver spacer disc inset with 4 faceted red rubies and 4 faceted clear glass cabochons. The forged-steel blade exhibits a straight profile with parallel fuller grooves on the shoulder, a hand guard with serrations underneath, and an upturned prong on the opposite side. Decorating the wooden sheath is a lustrous 93% silver jacket with one side showing densely engraved foliate motifs between zigzagging borders. Size (w/ sheath): 6.3" W x 18.9" H (16 cm x 48 cm); (blade): 15" L (38.1 cm); quality of silver: 92% (spacer disc) and 93% (sheath jacket).
