Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An attractive example of a personal ceremonial dagger known as a kris (also keris). The hand-carved wooden handle has a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and the copper-silver spacer disc beneath is adorned with intricate granulated motifs. The sheath is carved from a single piece of wood with a broad, sweeping guard protector as well as a form-fitting brass sheath jacket. Size (w/ sheath): 6.375" W x 18.9" H (16.2 cm x 48 cm); (blade): 15.2" L x 3.25" W (38.6 cm x 8.3 cm)
