Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine personal dagger known as a kris. The hand-carved wooden handle bears a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and the silvered copper spacer disc is inlaid with several faceted glass cabochons. The forged-iron blade has a straight profile with sharpened edges, a protruding hand guard, and an intricate forging pattern formed with strips of lighter nickel. The wooden sheath has a polished guard protector above the blade housing, and the housing itself is covered by a 69.05% silver jacket bearing lovely foliage motifs in repousse.
