Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A nice example of a ceremonial sword known as a kris (also keris). The tan-hued wood handle bears a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and the copper spacer disc beneath is inlaid with several faceted glass cabochons. The forged-iron blade features a straight profile with sharpened edges, a pointed tip, a protruding hand guard, and hammered strips of lighter nickel. The sheath has a bulbous guard protector, an attached blade housing, and a form-fitting copper sheath jacket decorated with dense floral motifs in repousse. Size (w/ sheath): 6.125" W x 20.5" H (15.6 cm x 52.1 cm); (blade): 12.625" L x 2.5" W (32.1 cm x 6.4 cm)

Minor abrasions to sheath jacket, guard protector, handle, and blade, with softening to finer details along handle, and scattered areas of roughness on blade. Old inventory label on verso of sheath jacket. Nice patina throughout.
