Southeast Asia, Malaysia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Ngaju Dayak people, ca. mid 20th century CE. A rare carved wooden sugar cane press featuring a lovely carving of an ancestral figure above a downwardly-curving, open spout that is carved integrally with a tall, cylindrical base. The ancestor figure is charming, with carved clothing and a round head with a cap atop a long, thin neck. Size: 9.25" L x 4" W x 46.85" H (23.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 119 cm); 47.5" H (120.6 cm) on included custom stand.
