Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, western Irian Jaya/West Papua, Asmat people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden spear of an intimidating style with six downward-pointing barbs lining the tapered head. The shoulder has a pair of barbs with tips connected to the thick lower portion, and the entire spear head is bound to the top of the handle via dark brown braided rattan fibers. Petite serrations line either side of the neck base above a spool-shaped spacer plug, and the slender handle tapers until reaching a rough butt end. Size: 1.125" W x 70.875" H (2.9 cm x 180 cm); 72.75" H (184.8 cm) on included custom stand.
