Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi or Zuni, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A handsomely carved and painted wooden "Mudhead" kachina doll with a bag mad from a cloth bandana and kerchief around his torso and neck. Mudhead, known as Koyemsi, is the kachina who at dances will entertain the audience, especially the children present, with games. Kachina figures are meant as gifts for children representing kachina dancers and the supernatural kachina beings they embody, and are part of the Pueblo tradition, which includes the Hopi and the Zuni tribes. Size: 5" L x 5" W x 12.5" H (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 31.8 cm)
