Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona or New Mexico, Hopi Peoples, ca. 20th century CE. An eye-catching wood kachina doll of the Sikyahote - Yellow Star - kachina, hand-painted in vibrant hues of yellow, red, and black and adorned with a plumed headdress, a hide skirt, felt boots, and a fox fur collar and armbands. His wrists and knees are also embellished with black yarn, animal hide, and metallic beads, while a sequin necklace falls upon his chest. His helmet-form mask presents a painted star at the center, a projecting snout with jagged teeth, telescoping eyes, and sizeable ears decorated by feathers. He holds a rattle in his right hand and his left previously grasped a bow or whip. Size: 11.1" W x 17.4" H (28.2 cm x 44.2 cm)
