Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Canada, British Columbia, Haida Gwaii, Haida people, ca. mid-20th century CE. Indecipherable signature with culture and location on underside of base. A splendid wooden wolf maskette featuring sizable eyes with nacre inlay pupils and a strand of braided cedar bark that bottom and top of the head. The elongated snout displays flared nostrils and gritted teeth, as though letting out a low, fierce growl. Nonetheless, he is an important figure in the crest hierarchy and is considered troublesome, volatile, ferociously playful in Haida mythology. Size: 7.6" L x 3.3" W x 5.1" H (19.3 cm x 8.4 cm x 13 cm); 7.1" H (18 cm) on included custom stand.
