Description:

Central America, Guatemala, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine wooden mask covered in a thin layer of plaster and painted with a faint pink-hued pigment to replicate the color of skin. The petite nose bears a pair of slit-form nostrils, the eyes ovoid and openwork, and the mouth still retains a few of the original silver-painted teeth. Pierced holes along the brows suggest the mask once had applied tufts of hair to create a more lifelike presentation, and small holes on each temple enable the mask to be worn. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 6" W x 7.75" H (15.2 cm x 19.7 cm).

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
