Southeast Asia, Philippines, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wood santo of Saint Francis of Assisi or Saint Anthony of Padua, depicted traditionally with a floor-length, hooded robe that belts at the waist and a tonsured coiffure. Standing atop an integral plinth, the holy figure displays petite eyes, a flattened nose, and thin lips enveloped by a beard and moustache. Cream and brown-hued pigments further embellish the figure. Size: 3.7" W x 11.9" H (9.4 cm x 30.2 cm)
