Description:

Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, ca. mid 20th century CE. An exquisitely carved boar skull, with openwork decoration on its upper and lower parts. The mandible is attached via a wire so that the skull is articulated. Smooth, creamy white pigment covers the skull, with the impressive tusks and teeth well displayed. This style of carving evokes the traditional Dayak art of human skull carving. Size: 17.5" W x 9.75" H (44.4 cm x 24.8 cm)
