Description:

Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A fascinating container carved from the bone of an ungulate with a carved wood lid in the form of a seated frog and a wood stopper at its base. Presenting with an ovoid base and long body that expands outwards towards its top, the curious vessel is skillfully incised on two sides with the image of two anthropomorphic frogs positioned kneeling with their upper bodies raised, heads pointed upwards, and front legs angled downwards. The two shorter sides are adorned with incised horizontal striations. Boasting a lustrous burnish, the body of the vessel has been stained in a hue of caramel, while the lid exhibits a lovely shade of chocolate brown. Size: 1.375" W x 5.75" H (3.5 cm x 14.6 cm)
