**Originally Listed At $500**

East Asia, China, Beijing area, ca. 1920 CE. Finely carved from a single piece of wood, a Buddha of medicine and healing in Mahayana Buddhism, oftentimes referred to as the Medicine Buddha - the noble doctor who cures all suffering (dukkha) via his teachings - his medicine. Depicted as the canonical Buddha, he holds a gallipot, sitting in a lotus position, facing forward with downcast eyes, a tightly curled coiffure, and characteristically elongated earlobes. A lovely work of spiritual art, expertly carved and showing remains of blue pigment on the hair, red pigment in the medicine bowl, as well as traces of white pigment here and there. Size: 15" L x 10" W (38.1 cm x 25.4 cm)
