East Asia, China and Japan, ca. mid-20th century CE. A set of two hats from China and Japan. First is a Chinese farming hat woven from slender bamboo fibers with a conical midsection and a broad brim reinforced with white thread. Second is a traditional Shinto priest hat known as an eboshi made from rigid black cloth with a narrow head opening beneath a central crest. Display head for photography purposes only. Size of largest (Chinese): 22.125" W (56.2 cm); (eboshi): 11.375" W x 11.25" H (28.9 cm x 28.6 cm)
