Description:

Central Asia, Northern India or Afghanistan, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A gorgeous pair of wearable necklaces strung with beads of semiprecious stone, glass, and brass. The first necklace has a nickel lobster clasp and is strung with 30 faceted translucent glass beads, 10 polished opaque white quartzite, 12 pale blue calcite stones in groups of three, and 7 large lilac hued chalcedony stones with beige striations. The necklace that is predominately green, has a nickel brass hook clasp with several spherical nickel spacer beads dispersed throughout. The strand branches into 3 strands with dozens of petite tubular greenstones, coming together into one strand with 4 spherical jadeite, polished jade nuggets and 2 large rectangular jadeite beads, and a central brass pendant bead with a triangular filigree surface flanked by jade spherical beads. Size of green necklace: 24" L (61 cm); spherical pendant bead: 0.8" L x 0.65" W (2 cm x 1.7 cm); purple necklace: 21.5" L (54.6 cm); large central bead: 1.5" L x 0.75" W (3.8 cm x 1.9 cm)

  • Condition: Both are wearable with green necklace beads are intact and very good. Minor nicks and chips to beads. Loss to largest chalcedony bead, exposing the drilled hole area and cord threading, but does not affect wearing of piece. Both strung in modern times with modern nickel finding and spacer beads.
