Latin America, South America, Brazil, ca. 1960s CE. A fine wood milagro or ex-voto, hand-carved in the shape of a breast with a spherical body and a hemispherical nipple at the top. Red pigment envelops the nipple and forms a geometric pattern around it, containing the letters A, R, and F. Milagros, also known as ex-voto, dijes, or promesas, are religious folk charms used as votive offerings for healing purposes. Milagros that are in the shape of a body part, like this example, are typically used as part of a prayer or vow for healing an ailment of that body part. Size: 3.7" Diameter x 4.1" H (9.4 cm x 10.4 cm); 5.9" H (15 cm) on included custom stand.
