Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 20th century CE. A stunning hand-carved wooden visage, perhaps a puppet head, of the Indonesian Rice Goddess, Dewi Sri, atop an integral wooden handle with a tapered bottom end. Her head exhibits gentle facial features, large drooping ears, and disc-shaped earrings, all atop a canary-yellow painted base. Her crown is simply opulent, with multiple curved rows of incised linear designs, leafy forms, and three rows of spiked plumes, all enclosed by a pair of flanking feathery columns. Each lateral side is embellished with graceful leafy and floral designs colored in hues of olive, coral, and fuchsia. A wonderful example of the Rice Mother of the Javanese people! Comes with custom display stand. Size: 14.75" H (37.5 cm); 15.625" H (39.7 cm) on included custom stand.
