Description:

North America, United States, Texas, ca. late 19th century CE. A well preserved skull from a cow or bull, that hopefully lived a long and happy life before leaving for greener pastures. The skull has collected a nice layer of orange and gray lichen across the surface, giving it a weathered and natural appearance. The horns retain most of the exterior sheath. A metal wire has been attached to the verso for suspension. This skull was found on the very famous Chisholm Trail, used to drive cattle from Kansas to Trexas between 1867 and 1884. This one evidently never finished the journey. Size: 20" L x 21" W (50.8 cm x 53.3 cm)

Provenance: private Glorieta, New Mexico, USA collection; ex-Taylor Tomlin collection, found in 2008
