North America, USA, ca. mid 20th century CE. A fascinating folk art box with matching lid, composed of panels of shaped and scrimshawed ungulate bone, attached to a paper-lined interior. A variety of alcohol labels decorate the interior and base, while the underside of the lid features newsprint from the State of Delaware. The sides of the box bear images of large sailing ships, while the lid bears an eagle flying above a banner that reads, "Vicksburg, Mississippi". The town of Vicksburg is located on the Mississippi River and was the site of a major Civil War battle. Size: 7.9" L x 8" W x 4.3" H (20.1 cm x 20.3 cm x 10.9 cm)
