Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Alaska, Native Alaskan, mid 20th century CE. An intriguing spirit mask, hand-carved from possibly whale bone, depicting a squinting face with an entirely separate face emerging from its forehead. Each mask is ovoid in form; the larger mask appears to be smiling while the smaller mask has an open mouth as if singing. The verso is uncarved. A very special example of a Native Alaskan spirit effigy mask. Size: 3" W x 4.875" H (7.6 cm x 12.4 cm); 7.375" H (18.7 cm) on included custom stand.
