West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden Shango cult figure depicting the deity Orisha whose power is illustrated by thunder and lightning. The larger squatting female holds her breasts with both hands while a smaller figure with an axe-shaped headdress. Size: 4.5" W x 14.625" H (11.4 cm x 37.1 cm)
