Description:

Western Africa, Ghana, Mina (or Elmina) peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure with perky breasts, sloping shoulders, a bulbous abdomen flanked by stocky arms, and attenuated legs with delineated genitalia in-between. The cylindrical neck supports a bulbous head with black-painted eyes beneath smooth brows, a bar-shaped nose, a thin mouth, and pierced ears, all beneath a swept-back coiffure with incised striations. Fine patina envelops the entire surface. Size: 3.125" W x 6.875" H (7.9 cm x 17.5 cm); 7.6" H (19.3 cm) on included custom stand.
