Description:

Africa, Tanzania or Mozambique, Makonde or Makua peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A blackened wood mask with a fierce demeanor and a rectangular mouth full of rectangular teeth. There are incised parallel lines indicating scarification on the brows and at the temples. The ears are large and rounded and the eyes are wide open and empty. This mask was made to be tilted back on the top of the head and worn in a ritual dance. Comes with custom stand. Size: 6.75" L x 9.5" W x 12" H (17.1 cm x 24.1 cm x 30.5 cm); height on stand: 14.9" (37.8 cm).
