Western Africa, Ghana, Akan peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden slingshot with a forked sling attachment and a handle depicting a seated figure. Resting upon an integral stool, the figure holds bent arms tightly against a slight distended abdomen below perky breasts. The stylized head bears an angular chin, a broad nose in-between almond-shaped eyes, a wide brow line, and a neatly-incised coiffure. Covered in lustrous brown patina, this is a wonderful example from Western Africa! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.45" W x 5.9" H (6.2 cm x 15 cm); 6.75" H (17.1 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Original sling strand missing. Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, small nicks to prongs, base, stool, and body, with fading to some finer incised features, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and great brown patina throughout.
