Native American, Northwest Coast, Haida, ca. early 20th century CE. Beautifully carved from a single piece of cedar wood, this mask presents a mesmerizing visage with wide open eyes comprised of black irises, perforated pupils, recessed borders highlighted in blue and black, thick black brows, a broad nose, red dotted black outlined motifs on the cheeks, red tab-shaped ears, an endearing zoomorph crawling down his forehead delineated in the red, blue, and black palette of the mask, a pair of similar animals over the upper lip of his red lined openwork mouth, and a single vertical blue stripe over the chin. Size: 9.25" L x 7.5" W (23.5 cm x 19 cm)
