Jody Naranjo (Native American, Santa Clara Tewa Pueblo, b. 1969) "Pueblo Potters" & "Turtles," sgraffito pottery, ca. 2004 & 2005 CE. A pair of jars by award winning artist Jody Naranjo. The figural vessel is a style that Naranjo calls "Pueblo girls" with women holding various forms of pottery in their hands, and the other has stylized turtles, another popular design by Naranjo. The undersides are signed and dated by the artist. Naranjo learned pottery from her mother and other female family members- collecting and processes the clay using traditional methods throughout her whole process. She is from a multigenerational family of potters - the Naranjo family is no stranger to award winning and museum exhibited artists! Jody Naranjo has been exhibited at The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture and the Heard Museum and has pieces in permanent collections such as the Denver Art Museum. Size of larger pot: 4" L x 5.25" H (10.2 cm x 13.3 cm)
