Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1550 CE. A charming pair of pottery portrait jars with appliqued features including almond-shaped eyes, thin, protruding noses, and tubular arms. The largest has a globular form with a circular opening atop delineated by a thin vertical rim. The squat vessel features a multi-faceted silhouette with petite nubbins scored along at its base. Both pieces have a similar jubilant expression across their face. A wonderful set! Size of larger: 5.4" Diameter x 5" H (13.7 cm x 12.7 cm); smaller: 3.5" W x 3" H (8.9 cm x 7.6 cm)

  • Condition: Smaller vessel has a chip and loss to rim. Earthen and mineral encrustations and deposits on interior and exterior. Otherwise, intact and very detailed. Larger vessel is repaired from four large pieces with infill and overpainting over break lines. Restoration to rim, nose, applied bumps on shoulder forehead, and right earring. Nice burnishing marks and light mineral deposits.
