Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Chupicuaro and Michoacan, ca. 300 BCE to 600 CE. A collection of 2 pottery figures and a bone amulet. The figures may have been ancestors or protective figures to place in a tomb as guardians - one is nude with prominent male genitalia and the other is adorned in applied jewelry, loin cloth, and headdress. The bone amulet is carved in the form of a crouching zoomorph with a piercing through the center, perhaps for wearing on a cord as a protective charm. Size of male figure: 1.75" L x 0.75" W x 4" H (4.4 cm x 1.9 cm x 10.2 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
