Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 350 CE. A lovely pair of pottery sculptures from west Mexico in the form of nude seated figures: a Jalisco mother and child and a Nayarit male mourner. Presenting a broad body, the Jalisco female sits with legs before her and carries a petite child in her right arm. Alternatively, the Nayarit male folds his legs and hunches over to cross his arms and rest his elbows on his knees. He angles his head downwards and opens his gaping mouth as though letting out an emphatic wail. Size: 6.5" W x 9.6" H (16.5 cm x 24.4 cm)
