Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A collection of 6 iron knives and tools from the Roman Empire including Germany (Gaul) and the Balkan region. The knives include straight edge blades- one with a partial bovine bone handle attached and another with an unusual, hooked finial handle from Germany. The iron drill is hand operated, with a twisted shaft and a T-shaped grip, allegedly discovered in the Balkan region. The final item is a narrow sickle shaped implement with a curving blade and short tang. Size (largest knife): 10" L x 1.25" W (25.4 cm x 3.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
