Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A set of hand-built hoop earrings, each formed from a tubular sheet of 84.1% to 84.7% gold. The terminals of each circular accessory are perforated to accommodate a C-shaped shank that has been fitted with a modern 14K gold-plated sterling silver ear wire. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 0.62" W x 0.72" H (1.6 cm x 1.8 cm); 1.25" H (3.2 cm) with included ear wire; gold quality: 84.1% to 84.7% (equivalent to 20K+); total weight: 3.0 grams

  • Condition: Wearable as shown with included ear wires. Gold earrings are ancient; gold-plated sterling silver ear wires are modern. Small loss to terminal of one earring. One original shank is secured with modern wire, and the other is pinched by the terminal flanges. Minor abrasions, but otherwise in very good condition. Nice patina throughout.
